Pekudei 23-4

Accounts of

Exodus 39:33-43

Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the LORD had commanded. So Moses blessed them.

Ex. 39:43 NIV

What did Moshe see?

After finishing the work with all the objects for the tabernacle they were brought to Moshe for him to inspect each one of them. After checking them, he approved them all. However, the text in the Torah doesn't say that they had made the objects according to what the Eternal commanded but that they had carried out the whole work – in Hebrew melachah, מלאכה  – as the Eternal had commanded. Moshe didn't only see each object but the whole work and he saw that they had worked with full devotion and with clean motivation to fulfill the divine will.

An artistically-skilled person is tempted to introduce his personal touch to project his creative ideas in his work. In this case, though, there was no room for that. They had to work according to the design that Moshe received in the mount and they couldn't take advantage of that work for showing off their skills. They had worked solely for the glory of the Eternal, not for their own and that's what Moshe saw, and he blessed them.

How easy is for men to add or take from what the Eternal has said. This work shows that Betzalel and his men were able to be faithful to divine revelation which pleased Moshe and the Eternal. The result of this kind of faithfulness is blessing.

Do you want to be blessed by the Eternal? Do what He has said. Don't add to or take from His words and you'll be extremely blessed.

May the Eternal fill you with blessings,

Ketriel
